High-purity silica, along with dopants like boron, germanium, and phosphorus, is melted at temperatures exceeding 3,000°C and solidified into a cylindrical glass rod called a preform. This step determines the fiber's optical properties and performance, making precision and purity critical .2. Fiber DrawingThe preform is then drawn into thin fibers using a drawing tower. The preform is heated until softened, and fibers are pulled under controlled tension to maintain uniform diameter. This step requires precise temperature and tension control to ensure consistent optical performance .3. Primary CoatingImmediately after drawing, fibers receive a primary protective coating. This coating protects the fiber from mechanical damage and environmental factors such as moisture and abrasion. UV-curable polymers are commonly used, applied via coating heads and cured with UV light .4. Fiber Coloring (Optional)For multi-fiber cables, fibers may undergo a coloring process to facilitate identification.
