External wiring of the three-level distribution box

In a three-level distribution system, power flows hierarchically from the main distribution board to secondary and tertiary boards, with each level properly protected and connected to ensure safety and efficiency.Hierarchical Wiring StructureMain Distribution Board (Primary Level) The main distribution board receives power from the utility or transformer and acts as the central hub. It typically contains a main MCCB or MCB, busbars, neutral and earth links, and may include RCDs for additional protection . From here, power is distributed to secondary distribution boards via branch circuits, ensuring that each secondary board receives balanced three-phase power .Secondary Distribution Boards (Secondary Level) Secondary boards receive power from the main board and distribute it to multiple tertiary switch boxes or specific loads. Each secondary board should have its own MCCB or MCB protection, neutral and earth links, and busbars to connect the incoming phases to the outgoing circuits . Branching at this level is allowed, but care must be taken to maintain load balance across all three phases.Tertiary Switch Boxes (Tertiary Level) Tertiary switch boxes connect directly to individual electrical equipment or sockets. The principle of “one machine, one switch” must be followed, meaning each switch box controls only one piece of equipment, with no further branching . This ensures safety, prevents overloading, and simplifies maintenance.Wiring GuidelinesPhase Connections: In a three-phase system, connect the three live wires (L1, L2, L3) to the input terminals of the main switch or MCCB. Use busbars to distribute power to MCBs for output loads .Neutral and Earth: Connect the neutral wire from the supply to the neutral busbar, and the earth wire to the earth busbar. If multiple neutral or earth links exist, interconnect them to maintain continuity .Load Connections: Connect each load to the output of the corresponding MCB or switch in the tertiary box. For three-phase loads, use a three-pole MCB; for single-phase loads, connect to one phase and neutral .Separation of Circuits: Power and lighting circuits should be separated, with dedicated switch boxes for each type to avoid interference and ensure safety .Distance Considerations: Minimize wiring distances: the main board should be near the power source, secondary boards near concentrated loads, and tertiary boxes within 3 meters of the equipment they control .Safety and Installation TipsUse proper wire gauges and insulation rated for the system voltage and current.Ensure secure grounding and proper cable management to prevent short circuits or fire hazards .Install distribution boxes in dry, accessible, and ventilated areas, typically at a height of around 1.5 meters .Follow local electrical codes (NEC, IEC, or regional standards) and use certified components.Label all circuits and consider modular designs for easier future upgrades . By following these hierarchical wiring principles and safety guidelines, a three-level distribution system can efficiently and safely deliver power from the main supply to individual equipment while maintaining load balance and minimizing risks.
