A 96-core fiber optic cable uses a “tube and fiber” color-coding system, where each of the 8 buffer tubes has a distinct color, and each fiber within a tube follows a 12-color sequence for identification.Tube and Fiber StructureIn a 96-core cable, fibers are grouped into 8 buffer tubes, each containing 12 fibers. The outer tube colors follow the standard 12-color sequence: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua. Each tube is assigned one of these colors, and the sequence repeats if necessary for higher fiber counts . Inside each tube, the individual fibers are also color-coded using the same 12-color sequence: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua. For example, Fiber #34 would be located in the Green tube (3rd tube) and be the Violet fiber within that tube .Multimode vs Single-Mode IdentificationMultimode fibers (OM3/OM4) typically use aqua or violet jackets for the outer cable, making them easy to distinguish in data centers .Single-mode fibers (OS2) usually have yellow jackets, commonly used for long-distance or FTTH applications .Connector and Jacket Color CodesOuter jacket color indicates fiber type and mode, providing a quick visual reference during installation .Connector boots are also color-coded: blue for UPC single-mode, green for APC single-mode, and beige or aqua for multimode .Practical ExampleFor a 96-core cable:Divide the fiber number by 12 to determine the tube.Use the remainder to identify the fiber color within that tube.Outer jacket color indicates the fiber type (yellow for single-mode, aqua for multimode).
