Main Structure of Huawei Optical Modules

Huawei optical modules consist of a transmitter (TOSA), receiver (ROSA), functional circuits, and optical interfaces that convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa.Core Components1. Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA) The TOSA is responsible for converting electrical signals into optical signals. It includes a light source (typically a laser diode for high-speed modules or LED for low-rate, short-distance applications), an optical interface, a monitoring photodiode, a housing (metal or plastic), and an electrical interface. The input electrical signal is processed by an internal driver chip, which modulates the light source to emit optical signals at the required bit rate. An automatic optical power control (APC) circuit ensures stable output power during operation . 2. Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA) The ROSA converts incoming optical signals back into electrical signals. It contains a photodetector diode that detects the optical signal, followed by a preamplifier to output the electrical signal at the corresponding bit rate. This assembly ensures accurate signal recovery and supports high-speed data transmission . 3. Functional Circuits These circuits manage signal processing, monitoring, and control. They include driver circuits for the transmitter, amplifiers for the receiver, and digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) circuits that track parameters such as voltage, temperature, transmitted and received optical power, and laser bias current . 4. Optical Bores and Interfaces Optical modules feature transmit and receive optical bores that interface with fiber connectors (LC, MPO, etc.). These bores guide light into and out of the module, ensuring efficient coupling with single-mode or multimode fibers. Modules may also support wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM/DWDM) for multiple wavelength channels on a single fiber .Types and Form FactorsHuawei produces various optical module types to meet different transmission standards and speeds:SFP/SFP+: Small form-factor pluggable modules for 1G–10G transmission.SFP28: Supports 25G transmission with the same interface size as SFP+.QSFP/QSFP+: Quad small form-factor pluggable modules for 40G–100G transmission.CFP: Larger modules for high-capacity data communication, supporting 100G and beyond .SummaryIn essence, a Huawei optical module integrates TOSA, ROSA, functional circuits, and optical interfaces to perform high-speed electro-optical conversion. The module's design ensures compatibility with different fiber types, supports monitoring and diagnostics, and allows for various transmission rates and distances, making it a core component in Huawei's fiber-optic communication systems .
